Genomtec is pleased to offer SARS-CoV-2 RT-LAMP CE-IVD Kit designed for qualitative detection of a specific gene fragment SARS-CoV-2 in specimens from individuals suspected of COVID-19.
The current world-wide pandemic causing COVID-19 disease exposed fragility of the diagnostic system mostly centred around quantitative PCR solution, where the fastest amplification reaction (inclusive of transcription of the RNA into the cDNA) takes above one hour, excluding time accounted for the thermal shifting on utilised real time PCR instrument. The long time-to-result creates a diagnostic backlog and ineffective use of laboratory workflows.
Unfortunately, technological limitations (heating & cooling process & others) prevent this from being improved. Often troubles arise from fallacious diagnostic parameters (like Limit of Detection, LOD) obtained by laboratories during a real-world usage of commercially available SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic RT-qPCR assays. This prompted Genomtec decision to employ RT-LAMP technology towards the benefit of a fast, precise and reliable IVD genetic testing against SARS-CoV-2 pathogen, in laboratory-dependent settings, but allowing increase in diagnostic workflows on currently used standard real time PCR instruments.
In RT-LAMP method detection and amplification of a specific gene can be accomplished in one step, by incubating the isolated viral RNA form clinical samples with a working ‘master mix’ at a constant temperature. The enabler here are proprietary primers that recognizes multiple specific sequences encompassing targeted region of SARS-CoV-2 gene, providing extremely high specificity and sensitivity.
The whole amplification reaction takes less than 20 minutes due to its high efficiency and the time saved on reverse transcription of viral RNA, as this step occurs simultaneously with cDNA amplification. Precious time is also saved on cooling and heating cycles, as the reaction occurs at one constant temperature. The resultant product can indicate presence or absence of targeted SARS-CoV-2 RNA in a sample.
